About Better Parenting

What is Better Parenting?

Better Parenting is a science-informed child development app for parents and primary caregivers of children from birth to age 5. The website organizes child-development knowledge and parent–child activities by age, ability, and real parent questions. Using observations provided by parents, the app keeps its understanding of each sub-domain up to date and connects the current position with a recommended next skill and activities.

Learn more about Better Parenting

Who is Better Parenting for?

The current website and app are primarily for parents and primary caregivers of children from birth to age 5. The content helps families understand everyday observation and interaction; it does not replace medical care, rehabilitation, preschool, or other professional services.

How is Better Parenting different from a collection of play ideas?

Better Parenting explains more than how to play. Each activity identifies a primary ability, interaction guidance, one core observation, and its developmental benefit. If you choose to reflect afterward, the observation can contribute to the relevant sub-domain and connect with a recommended next skill and activity.

Is Better Parenting free?

All Better Parenting app features are currently free. This product policy may change. If it does, the website and app will clearly describe the new access and effective date.

About child-development knowledge

What is the difference between milestones and skills?

Milestones provide foundational references for the current age. Skills show how one ability develops within a specific sub-domain. Milestones help parents check foundations; skills help explain the current position and next step. Neither coordinate replaces the other.

What does “75%” mean for a milestone?

Better Parenting aligns formal milestones to behaviors that can be observed in about 75% of children by the stated age. This is a population-level foundational reference, not a deadline for every child on a particular day and not a diagnostic standard.

Are the whole-child development skills on an age page also required?

No. An age page separates foundational milestones from skills drawn from relevant sub-domain Growth Paths that may be worth noticing and supporting. Those skills reveal further directions for growth. They are not requirements for every child at the current age, and a child is not expected to be ahead in all 31 sub-domains.

Why can children of the same age look so different?

Development has broad sequences, but it is not a straight line. Interest, experience, ways of communicating, opportunity, and the pace of different sub-domains can all differ. Age is a reference point; it cannot replace ongoing observation of a particular child across different situations.

Is the age attached to a skill a training deadline?

No. It organizes the Growth Path and helps explain typical change. It does not require every child to master the skill on the same date. Begin with what your child already does and cares about, then offer appropriate opportunities.

Does Better Parenting update its knowledge?

Yes. Formal milestones, skills, activities, and website pages are versioned. When wording, an age assignment, an explanation, or a product fact needs correction, the source data and website enter the appropriate update workflows and retain author, review, and update information.

About how the app works

How does Better Parenting show the full picture of development?

Parents add real behavior through a three-step activity reflection, a Milestone Assessment, or a Skill Assessment. The app keeps the relevant sub-domain up to date and shows its current status, Growth Path position and supporting observations, a recommended next skill, and related activities. The latest results from several sub-domains then form the four-domain development overview and the 31-sub-domain Growth Map.

Do I have to complete all three kinds of assessment?

No. Begin with the one that feels most natural now. The three kinds of information complement one another. When there is not enough information, continue observing or add more instead of treating an incomplete picture as certain.

What do Building foundations, On track, and Ahead for age mean?

They describe whether the developmental level currently supported by observations in one sub-domain is below, aligned with, or ahead of your child's current age. They do not represent your whole child and do not judge intelligence, personality, talent, or future potential.

Does Developing mean that my child is behind?

No. Developing means this sub-domain has been assessed and placed at a specific stage, instead of remaining Not yet assessed. It does not indicate whether the result is below, aligned with, or ahead of your child's current age.

Why can app results change?

Children develop, and parents add more information. When a new activity reflection, milestone answer, or Skill Assessment is added, the relevant sub-domain and later recommendations can update.

Does AI watch videos and assess my child automatically?

No. Parents observe and provide real behavior. Development statuses, recommended next skills, and activity recommendations come from the knowledge system and product services. AI may help explain them, but it does not change the results on its own and does not make medical diagnoses.

About activities

Can I view and use website activities without downloading the app?

Yes. Website browsing and playing together are complete actions. Published activity details can be viewed directly. Downloading the app is a secondary action for seeing all currently available activities, adding observations, and receiving personalized suggestions.

Do I have to reflect after every activity?

No. Reflection adds one real observation to the relevant sub-domain. It is not a condition for an activity to be valuable and should not interrupt time together.

Did the activity fail if my child did not finish it?

No. Interest, initiation, trying, asking for help, adjusting, refusing, and rejoining can all help parents understand the child's current state. The core observation directs attention; it is not a pass mark.

Can one activity support many abilities?

Real activities often involve several abilities, but Better Parenting identifies one primary developmental relationship. Another ability is described only when the activity process and knowledge relationship genuinely support it as a natural secondary benefit.

Will repeating an activity guarantee that my child masters the skill?

No. Activities offer opportunities to practice and observe. Development reflects many experiences and relationships over time; it cannot be attributed to one activity or a fixed number of repetitions.

A page can publish when its knowledge is ready. A link is added when a suitable, reviewed activity is currently available in the app. Without one, the page remains useful as text instead of filling the gap with a poor match.

Safety, privacy, and professional boundaries

Can Better Parenting replace a pediatric visit or professional assessment?

No. Better Parenting provides child-development knowledge, support for everyday observation, and parent–child activities. It does not provide medical diagnosis, rehabilitation prescriptions, or personalized medical advice. Contact your child's pediatrician or another qualified healthcare professional if your child loses a previously used skill, has persistent significant discomfort, or you remain concerned about development or health.

How should I use activity safety guidance?

Follow the preparation and adult-supervision guidance in activities involving small objects, water, climbing, food, or outdoor environments. Intervene immediately when a safety risk appears; do not delay protection in order to wait for independent trying.

How does Better Parenting protect child and family information?

The current Privacy Policy describes what information is handled, why, how long it is kept, when it is shared, permissions, and user rights. Website content does not use real family information as marketing evidence without authorization.

How do I delete an account or make a data request?

In the app, go to Profile → Account & Security → Delete Account, then complete phone verification and the second confirmation. You can also make a privacy or data request through Help and Support. Processing rules and timing follow the Privacy Policy and applicable law.
